Londoners are some of the friendliest people there are but sometimes you have to reach out to them.

Hello Yasmin,

I think you will find that the average British person has run out of goodwill to engage with yet another 'visitor' to their country , we do after all have so many of them.

Additionally it is more the norm rather than the exception that visitors have a limited grasp of the English language .

The average person in large cities is usually concentrating on getting to or from a place of work & home , stress levels especially in cities are quite high amongst those who live in them.

If you have occassion to visit some of the suburbs or go to more social occassions you will find them more receptive and of course there is always the 'curse' of the Old British Reserve.

Be patient accept our life style , understand the causes and don't judge on first impressions and don't seek to set yourself apart from the average Brit by way of attitude or 'clothing' and you will make friends over time.

Good luck with your studies.

You are not alone. It takes takes time. I moved from an inner London suberb to the 'real' suberbs and the first summer I was there I was followed around in the local shops because they hadn't seen me around. I still haven't really every spoken to many people at the gym I go to. But.... a smile coming from you breaks the ice. London is my city, I love it. I am sure there may be friendlier places but give it a chance. It will reward you.

it's not personal - no-one in London is nice to anyone. You've not been singled out, I assure you. People live their lives in little bubbles, letting no-one else in.

That's why I left 7 years ago, and moved to the South West

I am a Londoner but i dont live there any more. Londoners tend to be very insular. I believe that is common in large cities

Its nothing personal, everyone just keeps there self to there self...

It can be a dangerous place, so people do not like to stand out to much............

Go to the markets etc everyone is friendly there, its always difficult in a new place because you tend to be more sensitive......

Good luck love xx
