To those reading the pregnancy postings, there is an answerer touting herself as an OB/GYN and giving her email address to answer medical questions. She has admitted in her response to a separate question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akw3ZAOjMCj86KISTjQ4mzfsy6IX?qid=20061019121029AAWIAzr
that she is just a high school senior (if that is even true).

Please be careful and do not follow her medical advice without your doctor's confirmation that it is true.

Out of curiosity, is there anyone on here who would accept medical advice provided by an answerer, claiming to be a medical doctor, without first confirming it with an independent search of the internet or by asking her own doctor?

By the way, I have reported her answers where I have come across them, but having no info about her real identity, it would be nearly impossible to report her to any other authorities. If anyone knows how to do so, I would appreciate your ideas. Impersonating a doctor is illegal for the good reason that someone might actually take their medical advice and be harmed by it.

I cant speak for everyone, but I think a majority of people come on here and ask questions, just to see what kind of answer and advice is given. Than they will have questions/comments/concerns when they talk with their doctor. At least that's what I hope a good amount of people are doing. Especially when dealing with pregnancy because you do not want to put your baby or yourself in any kind of jeopardy.

Bet she feels like an idiot now. Impersonating a doctor, even online could keep her out of medical school. If she's a senior in high school she could be in pre med at the same time. They have this program called running start in Washington that takes juniors out of high school and puts them in college. She's definatly not in med school yet though.

me personally, i look it up on the Internet, then i ask, and if i feel that the advice I'm given is not good enough, I'll call my daughter's doctor, or when i was pregnant i would ask my midwife, some people just give crap answers to get points i think, but then there are some who take from life experiences and give answers, but no i dint take advice without researching it myself

Yeah , i'm pretty sure it is illegal to say you're a doctor when you're not. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Personally i always look up things on the internet first, then ask my doctor. I don't rely on the "facts" of other people on the internet unless i've verified it with someone i trust.

I believe that it is illegal to represent yourself as a Dr. This person should be reported to Yahoo and the authorities.
