I am 16 weeks and have gained 13 pounds all together but I gained 8 pounds at my last appointment. My doctor did not metion that there may be twins but I have had dreams and now with the weight gain I am beginning to wonder. She has only found one heart beat and has not looked for another.

The other day my OB was telling me that a Dr in the office didn't see the twin that a patient was pregnant with until her 20 week appointment. One was hiding behind the other and they had only heard one heartbeat up until that point. I guess this is pretty rare though. I gained a lot with my son and it just happend to be genetics. Don't worry about the weight. I know it is easier said than done, but it is better to gain wight and know that the baby is well fed, right? :) Good luck!

If she only heard one heartbeat, there is probably only one. If your OB thought that you might be having twins, an ultrasound would have already been ruled. My OB gave me an ultrasound at 8 weeks at my 1st prenatal, because I had all the signs of twins. Namely, my HcG level was really high in my pregnancy test, and I was constantly throwing up. Weight gain has nothing to do with twins. I'm 33 weeks pregnant, and have gained a total of 9 pounds in this pregnancy. I did not have dreams of being pregnant with twins, until I found out that there were two babies. For all the "signs" that there are twins, they could also be a sign of something else. I would just go with the OB says. Twins may be cute - but they're a lot of hard work. And really give you something of an uncomfortable pregnancy. Just ask my ribs!

Even if you have twin, that would not have caused you to gain 8 pounds. Each baby is like 2-4 ounces right now. It's all in your head. The only way to detect it is seeing 2 heartbeats.

They usually can tell when you go for a visit just by looking at your stomach. I asked if I was carrying twins because there are so many in the family and my doctor told me that by feeling and looking where the baby is that I am not having twins. He said my uterus would be much higher than it is. Good Luck!

you will in simple terms might desire to attend. Getting ill quicker - doesnt advise you're having twins. there is not any thank you to tell. you in basic terms might desire to attend till 12 weeks whilst they are able to pay attention a heartbeat (or in all threat extra) or you wait till 20 weeks whilst they do an ultrasound. At your first appointment inspite of the indisputable fact that they'll probable pass over kin historic previous and such and because he's a twin- you have a extra physically powerful threat of having twins- so as that they might do an united statesquicker to learn- a minimum of that is why my OB place of work does in case you have a "extreme" threat of in all threat wearing multiples.
