If you are painting with an oil based paint, you will get fumes and I dont think there is any hazard to painting near your furnace, but the fumes will travel through your heating ducts and travel through your house, you need to ventilate and open some windows while painting, If you use latex based paint there is no risk at all, it is a low fume emitting paint and it dries quickly which will keep your worry levels down! If you are really concerned about fumes, just add about 3 drops of vanilla to your paint and presto! The fumes will dissipate!

You are below grade so you should be using water based coatings. Good air flow will keep what fumes there will be from bothering you. Some people are ore chemically sensitive tha others so if the air flow doens;t do the trick pick up a respirator for 20-30 bux. Store it in a zip lock bag until you need it again.

There is no danger if painting near a flame; I do suggest opening a window in the room to prevent inhalation of paint fumes. If no window is present, use a fan to help circulate the air better.

most non-acrylic paint fumes are non-flammable. Read the label to be sure. I used to paint for a living and smoked at the same time usually. If you are still worried, turn off the water tank and furnace for a couple of hours and ventilate the room.

Epoxies are the final, by way of fact they do no longer dry, they scientific care. the two chemical compounds in epoxy are a coloring/coating and a hardening agent. The chemical reaction between the two units up the epoxy like a stable action picture of plastic. So, unlike paint, it won't chip or peel aside. additionally, in case you prepare the floor of the concrete wisely, the epoxy seeps into the pores interior the concrete and makes an eternal bond that may not be able to be peeled up from the concrete. reckoning on the quantity of harm (like whether or no longer you're rolling heavy shop kit over the floor), an epoxy-coated concrete floor might desire to final a life-time.

Hire a professional, or only paint one section or wall at a time. Even if nothing bad happens with the pilot light, it won't be healthy for you or whoever's down there to be painting for a long time.
