acidic?
hmm, i'm a chemistry major who likes beauty
funny combo huh?
anyhow I'll tell you that the main ingrediant in most soaps is lye, in drano, laundry soap and others.
You can know if something is alkaline if it tastes bitter, and acidic if it tastes sour.
or if you can't taste it, you can buy red cabbage (yes, red cabbage) and you cut a peice off and touch it to whatever you want to know if it's acidic or basic also known as alkaline. It's red if Acidic, blue if alkaline, and really red if you don't cut it carefully. OKay! Thanks for the time, hope this helps
-Mr. Adam
by the way, I cut this out of my answer, but just couldn't let it go, try it, especially at the bottum...
Anything that changes color in acid or base is known as a litmus, and Red cabbage is a natural litmus. if you don't believe me don't don't want to show any-one that you're testing out some guy's theory on a website. Then just put some red cabbage in a wok, and fry it up with some lemon it'll turn bright red, then put dishsoap on another, it'll turn deep blue. eh?

Depends on the brand, some like Dove soap, is Ph neutral, so it won't harm your skin.

I learned in chemistry class it was basic. If it was alkali it would sting your skin.

Yes, until it's had its pH altered to suit skin conditions (very slightly acidic.)
