Every society needs some law and order, otherwise there would be chaos. However, many Indian tribes survived for centuries without a centralized government. Many African tribes today do the same things. Problems are resolved by the group.

Today, in the U.S.A., we live in a republic, which is governed by representatives elected by the people. Unfortunately, that kind of government has eroded into a cesspool of corruption, evil, arrogance, incompetence, and contemptibility.

The United States must reform itself and become a true democracy, in which the people rule. While politicians (who don't want to relinquish their 'cushy' jobs and lifetime benefits) will claim democracy won't work, I say they're wrong. With today's technology, every issue could be debated publicly, a referendum could be scheduled, and citizens from all over the country could vote en masse.

It's the only way for the U.S.A. to survive. Otherwise, our elected officials will continue to drag us into degradation while they keep sucking off the taxpayers' teats. -RKO-

Sure, politicians can be idiots, but without them (who we can kick out in elections if we don't like them) we'd be ruled automatically by whoever was strongest (who we'd be powerless to stop). Without a government it's just 'survival of the fittest' because there would be noone to try and keep a check on the rich and powerful.

These days everyone likes to slag off politicians, and quite right too, but what we forget is that the really powerful people are in business and media, and we've got no way of kicking them out if we don't like them.

Winston Churchill once said: 'government by democracy is the worst system there is... except for all the other ones'. That pretty much says it all.

The average Joe, would start his political career doing what his people want him to do, that is, bringing up issues that concern his constituency. Therefore, he gets voted in again, by this time however, the puppet strings have been attached, and average Joe becomes a political puppet to those who choose his political path, and the average Joe becomes your everyday politician!
End of! This is politics as we know it!

If the average Joe was elected, we'd all end up with some illiterate idiot running the country.
That would bode really well for the education argument huh?

Years ago there used to be independent candidate's but because the big! parties could not control them they were forced out and only candidates from the big! parties could afford to stand. These independents could vote how they wanted without any threat of lost support from the party. The loss of these independents has led to the voice of the people being ignored. A return to these independents may lead to the voice of the people being heard again.

im fine with an average joe, so long as he's not an average fool. i also prefer people who know how to spell, as a general criteria.
