It depends on why you want to relocate. If you want to live in hell, than move to the Southwest where in the winter it can drop to the single digits with 40 mph north winds and in the summer it gets a nice and cool 112ºF plus. If you are looking for areas that have both the heat and the humidity during the summer than move to the South. If you love the rain than move to the Northwest. If you are looking for trees than move to one of the Eastern states.
If you are looking for a better job market with lower cost of living than almost any state should qualify.
No one can make that decision for you. I have lived in Ohio, Wisconsin, Upper New York state, Washington across from Seattle, Orlando Florida, and currently Southwestern Oklahoma. For me I prefer Northeast Ohio because of family, friends, and weather. I hope to never live in the South again.

Practically anyplace is cheaper than Mass. With you being a carpenter, you want to look for an area that is growing fast. I am in Austin, and it would be a good choice if the illegals didn't have the wages so low in your profession.
It really depends on you. If you like the seasons, you need to stay in the north. If you are like me and HATE snow (it is hard to even type it) then move south. Just look for an area that matches your preferences and is growing. There will be work there.

We live in ND, if you want to raise a healthy happy SAFE family. This place is the place to be. We do however have winters like im sure alot of you have never seen :) But our summers are awesome, our neighbors are our home watchers, everyone knows everyone on the street you live on. Its a very safe place to live. The schools are very productive and smaller class sizes. The living is very cheap. We bought a 3 bedroom house and a 1/2 acre backyard for 10,000. My hubby makes more than 35,000 a year. so the income is good and the living is cheap :) GOODLUCK in wherever you choose :)

I live in Tahoe, California side. An 800 sq. ft cabin is over $300,000.00. BUT it is beautiful. If you are a carpenter, I would say Nevada, Reno, Carson area, it is growing in leaps and bounds. My husband does finish carpentry (high end stuff ) and he's making $35.00 an hour full time in Tahoe. That's not too shabby, in Carson I think carpenters are getting about $25.00 to $30.00 an hour. I think the weather in NV isn't worse than in Mass., my sister in law was there a year and hated it, she just moved back to Reno.

LOL any state would be a move up from massachusetts. I cant believe any one would want to live and be represented by kerry and kennedy. that's bad, just how do they keep getting voted back in? Im sure kennedy buys or cheats his way like the rest of his family has.

What part of the state do you want to live in? What are you looking for weather, things to do, ocean accessible, affordable housing???? That should be your first criteria. You can both find jobs in any state, so that won't be a problem.

There is no possible way another person, especially someone who knows nothing about you other than your occupation, can answer that question. I live in Texas. I love it.
