I witnessed a double tornado back in the 60's it was incredibly loud like a train and it got so dark. The wind was blowing so hard. It picked our house up and turned it sideways on it's foundation. We had a lot of damage in our town. I remember because Lyndon Johnson the president at the time came to view the devastation. We had been playing in an empty lot about 6 blocks from home when it got so quiet and dark by the time we got home the storm had hit. We had no basement but went to a neighbors home. Luckily no one in our family was hurt but the town lost many lives and homes. Dunlap Indiana

Yes, I watched the tornado tear apart my home town when I was 11.
We had just arrived home from school. The weather was muggy, the clouds dark and heavy, but no rain yet. Then gradually the clouds turned yellowish and ugly, the winds picked up and we could all hear the roaring of the tornado as it ripped a path through the high school, a lot of homes and businesses, and through the roller rink. One of my friend's skating partner was killed when the rink's roof collapsed as they practiced.

I don't think my parents knew it was a tornado we were watching, or they would not have allowed us to watch through the front room window! It was one of the most frightening moments in my life, watching the swirling wind funnel and the devastation it caused.

I have several times and I also was in a town that one ripped through 15 mins after it happened, we were looking for my BF sister and her 2 kids. His sister was killed, 2 kids hurt seriously. It looked like a war zone. Before a tornado hits, it gets very calm and green looking, then sounds like a freight train coming....

Yes, once while living in the Chicago suburbs.. It went over the fields in back of where we lived (this was before it had all been built up with subdivisions).
It ended up coming down over the Arlington Heights racetrack area, and caused havoc there...
Rather awesome.... Leaves you breathless, even if you see it at a distance!

I was in one in Michigan when I was in 8th grade. I was visiting my best friend's grandparents and hadn't ever seen anything like it before. It was exciting and scary at the same time. I had to sit under the table. I wanted to call my mom so bad, but the people there said I had to stay off he phone.

sure I easily have. I easily have witnessed the two a twister (the could third, 1999 one) and a water spout. The twister develop into no longer mind-blowing. It killed maximum of folk, destroyed plenty, and it develop right into a pair of a million/4 mile from our domicile, so yeah, we got here on the factor of dying. Water spouts are neat, although. I easily have seen them form, use up, and so on.

I have never witnessed one, but have wished to, but I would hate to see someone get hurt.I would just like to see a twister still in the air.
