Asking once again.... lol
I bowl a 143 and improving... I just need help with my hand release... For some reason my ball goes very straight and when they get near the pins it goes side ways and always hits the left side. I have tired standing on diff. sides of the lanes... Sometimes that works, but I think its my hand realse! How are you supposed to let go of the ball. With the bottom of your wrist upward?

Suggestion again.... ?

Stand to the right side, try throwing on the first or second arrow, release the ball as if you were shaking hands, and finish with your right hand at your ear...might help...I'd have to watch you throw before really advising you..oh..I am a 226 average .....

Way back in the day, when I first started to learn how to REALLY bowl (not just throw a plastic ball down the lane as hard as I could and hope it hit something), my coach taught me that the ideal release is where you reach out to shake hands with the pins. Keep your wrist firm. Of course, this works best with a fingertip grip.

Once you have a consistent release and speed, and once you can hit your spot on the lane (I started off by standing with my left foot directly on the center arrow and throwing for board #10 - second dot on the lane), you can adjust your starting point on the approach.

Typical rule of thumb is three boards for each pocket. If you hit the brooklyn pocket, move two boards left. If you're hitting the 3-6 pocket, move three boards right.

I hope this makes sense, and I hope you find it helpful. (I'm about a 180 average bowler, but part of the reason it's not higher is that I just don't get to bowl as often as I'd like.)

You could always try to put a slight curve on the ball. This way, you could give it a little bit of a spin and it actually works. I usually do bowl and release the ball with the bottom of my wrist upward.

rule of thumb if your ball moves left you move left but keep your mark the same...i move a couple boards at time to left if my ball keeps doing that and i keep my mark usually the 12th or 13th board and it works..also try to increase your ball speed by holding the ball a little higher when step up..don't move your wrist..yet,,
for me my thumb comes out first then i slightly rotate my fingers to the side...just before i release my ball.. keep up the good work and son you will avg. over 190 and maybe over 200 like me!!1 you can always contact me through my 360 if you ned anymore help

Your wrist should twist upward clockwise with the release, if you are left handed counter-clockwise...
