once upon a time the answer was yes, but now it is usual for welsh, scots and irish to support anyone versus england. Usually the same in reverse too.

only noteable exception is British Lions, and maybe cricket too?

I'm English. Yes, because at the end of the day we are all British, and hold British passports. I was cheering for Scotland the other day when they beat France (though I do find it amusing when they slip up against lesser teams, like Lithuania or Peru). I cheered for Wales when they beat Italy. I am half Northern Irish so I always hope they do well (their recent progress is really intriguing). Same thing when British teams are playing in Europe, I always want them to win.

It is the same when teams I don't support are playing in European competitions. I hope every team does well and goes far. Watford are my team, but if our rivals Luton Town were up against a major European giant, I would be rooting for them.

I think you will find that an Englishman will support a Welsh or Scottish team, but neither a Welshman nor a Scotsman will support the English team.
