Cut the caffeine, I've heard acupuncture works, and no hot tubs for him.

Actually, that is true. The male sex organs descend below the body for a reason. Sperm develop better a few degrees less than normal body temp. A males' ability to inseminate a female relates to that. Briefs keep to testicles against the abdominal wall at the same temp as the rest of the body. If you are a guy, you'll notice that the scrotum draws the testicles closer to the body when its cold, and everything hangs pretty low when its hot. Changing from briefs to boxers is a easy, cheap way to increase your chances. The difference is probably very small, but might be enough to help someone to conceive

Funny! As a mother of 5 children, with twins on the way - sex is the best way to conceive. I personally prefer boxer briefs, but my man tends to wear briefs. And hot tubs & saunas - no way! Hot tubs are hot! Cutting the caffeine won't do anything either.

Seriously, have sex - make love, often. Don't make it a baby makin' thing - keep it a love thing. Positions don't matter, I don't understand the pillow thing either. You will be blessed with a child, when it is time for a child. And don't stress out about it - have fun!

Men's part in fertilization is quite amazing. About 200 million sperm are mixed with semen to form ejaculate. In most men, 15 to 45 million of these sperm are healthy enough to fertilize an egg, although only 400 survive after a man ejaculates. Only 40 of those 400 reach the vicinity of the egg, surviving the toxic environment of the semen and the hostile environment of the vagina. After another process called capacitation (an explosion that allows the remaining sperm to drill a hole through the tough outer layer of the egg), only one lone sperm reaches the egg for fertilization and conception.

Top Causes of Male Infertility

Low sperm count
Slow sperm motility (movement)
Abnormal morphology (shape and size of sperm)
Problems with semen
Even though specialists know the causes of male infertility, what's not always known is the cause behind the cause. There are many factors -- lifestyle, genetics, physiology -- that might explain low sperm count, slow sperm mobility, abnormal sperm shape, and so on.

Recent developments in treatment have made fertility possible for many men. But before undergoing any complicated procedures, there are some simple lifestyle changes that can better the odds of a successful conception. (These tips are helpful for any couple trying to conceive, whether or not infertility has been diagnosed.)

Stop smoking cigarettes or marijuana. Smoking tobacco has been linked to low sperm counts and sluggish motility. Long-term use of marijuana can result in low sperm count and abnormally developed sperm.
Decrease your drinking. Alcohol can reduce the production of normally formed sperm needed for a successful pregnancy.
Watch your weight. Both overweight and underweight men can have fertility problems. With too much weight, there can be hormonal disturbances, and when a man's too lean, he can have decreased sperm count and functionality.
Exercise in moderation. Excessive exercise could lower your sperm count indirectly by lowering the amount of testosterone in your body. And as you might have guessed, stay off the steroids -- they can cause testicular shrinkage, resulting in infertility.
Value your vitamins. Low levels of vitamin C and zinc can cause sperm to clump together, so keep your numbers up. Vitamin E can counteract excess free-oxygen radicals, which can also affect sperm quality.
Turn your back on toxins. Landscapers, contractors, manufacturing workers, and men who have regular contact with environmental toxins or poisons (pesticides, insecticides, lead, radiation, or heavy metals) are all at risk of infertility.
Have you ever heard the debate about whether men should wear boxers or briefs? It goes something like this: Briefs are tighter, so it's possible that they can raise your body temperature above the norm for sperm to survive. So if a guy wants to be really fertile, boxers are the way to go. Truth is, this has yet to be scientifically proven. But if you're trying to get pregnant, there's no harm in wearing loose clothing and staying out of hot tubs and saunas.

Since infertility affects one in 25 men these days, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude is the way to go if you're considering becoming a father.

Additional Factors That May Inhibit Men's Fertility

Certain antibiotics
Narcotics (cocaine, speed, etc.)
Abstinence from sex (for more than a few days)
Variococeles (varicose veins in the testicles)
Untreated infections (sexually transmitted and otherwise)
Radiation and chemotherapy treatments
Fevers
Exposure to DES during your mother's pregnancy
Excessive stress
Testosterone deficiency

Boxers will not help this late in the game. If you wanted to make an impact via boxers, he probably should have stopped wearing briefs years ago.

Both parties should stay out of hot tubs, hot baths, Jacuzzis, et cetera.

I highly suggest laying on your back for an additional 15 minutes after sex (don't get up immediately). However, there really is no scientific evidence to support this theory. It did work for me, hence I suggest it. - And hey, what could it hurt?

You don't need to prop your bum up on a pillow like some sites suggest. Sperm have flagella which propel them so that wives tale is complete bunk.

She should chart her cycle. A good site for this is www.fertilityfriend.com

You can have sex daily. The wive stale about "every other day" is completely untrue. In fact the more often you have sex, the fresher/healthier the semen. Men can regenerate semen daily, so there's no reason to hold off...

She should start taking prenatal vitamins now. It will benefit both her and the baby.

I bought an ovulation microscope and that worked well for me. They cost about $25 at any drug store and from my experience they are very accurate in helping to calculate ovulation dates (via saliva ferning). This is basically what I have:
http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/saliva-ovulation-test.html
They are reusable - which is why I chose this method instead of a pee-on-a-stick ovulation kit.

That mountain dew (yellow #5) rumor is a total myth. See:
http://www.snopes.com/medical/potables/mountaindew.asp
It's probably not good for the body in general, and caffine isn't good for babies, but I assure you that Mountain Dew is not going to reduce your risk of pregnancy.

actually the boxers thing is not myth necessarily. See tight clothing slows down the production of sperm, however most guys don't wear underwear tight enough to actually do this. Don't have sex every day, so that the sperm count is higher when you do have sex and as someone else said avoid intense heat (hot tubs etc.) Don't smoke pot (lowers sperm count) ummm, your doctor would have tons of easy suggestions.

actually, when trying to conceive the guy should remove his boxers....
Aside from that, you should both be eating healthy, take vitamins and he should exercise regularly to keep his testosterone levels up. Also, if either one of you smoke, you need to quit to increase your chances of conception.

don't drink mountain dew, do it at night and have her put a pillow under her hip when your done (worked for me on the first try) for a while to let gravity help out. she has to figure out what days she's fertile too.
