I agree, go buy your own deck and book. I like "The Everything Tarot Book" for beginning. After you get the hang of things, get a more advanced book.
My favorite deck of cards is called Diamond Tarot. The pattern on the deck is mesmerizing. You have to pick the deck that stands out for you though.

you can go to a local book store and buy a deck of your own with a book to teach you how. it's usually better if the deck is familiar with you. the best book i've found is "tarot in 10 minutes", i forgot the author though
