One of the biggest activities in Minnesota is retailing. The state is the headquarters for companies such as Best Buy and Target and is home to the Mall of America, the country's largest shopping center. Manufacturing is another major activity. Among the biggest manufacturers is 3M. Agriculture and food processing (especially the production of cereals and flour) are another major part of Minnesota's economy.

There's not much oil refining in Minnesota, though the state does produce some chemical fertilizers. While the forestry industry is important, they tend to produce paper products rather than actual lumber.
