I'm no expert but take a peek at your firewall settings. Limewire can be quirky if it cant get past the port settings on your firewall. See the Limewire help files for details.

I heard people can hack your connection, this could be slowing it down. Try finding some info on google about encrypting your wireless device so only you can use it.

login to your router and change it so your computer is set to "DMZ" this will forward all incoming connections to your pc(this often helps with P2P programs).
also try updating your drivers etc
