Jimi Hendrix was and still is my favorite! And I like Eric, Jimmy and Jeff! But let's not forget Malcolm and Angus Young - AC/DC ROCKS!

Jimi H. set the bar to a height that was out of sight from what had been done before him. So he is pretty much was responsible for everything that came after him. When he first started to get a little notoriety Jeff Beck was curious to go see this guy he heard about named Jimi Hendrix and saw Clapton walking out shortly after the beginning of the show. so Beck asked slow hand, because of the look on his face while shaking his head, "Eric is he that bad?" and he answered to Beck, "No he is that good"
I do think that as far as taking it where no one else has been able to, Eddie VanHalen cannot and has not been reproduced nor surpassed by anyone, he had and maybe still does, techniques precision and innovation etc... beyond anyone else. Personally I don't really like nor dislike the man and the same for his music. yet he is the best player but only because Jimi paved the way. If Eddie lived in Jimis time he would have probably been playing weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, county fairs and maybe goat roping's with the occasional small-medium gig to scratch out a living

No one is better than Hendrix. No one. No guitarist will ever even try and make that claim. There was a TV special one time and Pete Townsend said Clapton called him and asked him to dinner one night. They had never socialized and he thought it was odd but he went. At dinner Clapton told him "I saw a guy who's going to put us all out of business". He was talking about Hendrix.

But you know who I never thought of as a great guitarist, because his music isn't really so guitar oriented? Prince. He was on the RNR HOF ceremonies the year George Harrison was inducted and he was amazing. I wish he'd air it out some more.

Clapton is God I've heard. But I like Stevie Ray.

Rollingstone magazine picked BB King number 2 after Jimi.

I'd say Eddy Van Halen, followed by the rest of those guitar gods.
