Lets dispel some confusion.
Guild Wars can be played purely solo with no interaction with other players if that's how you want to play the game.
Missions with maybe a couple of exceptions can all be done solo with henchmen.
There are scammers in GW, but I believe that is consistent with most online games that enable trading of items to take place.
If you want to interact with other players, get yourself into a guild, that's usually a good way also to beat the scammers as you can ask in guild how much an item is worth. Bigger the guild the more chance some one will know, or even buy the item from you.
Having seen Oblivion played on the PC, I must say I found it slow in terms of game play, that though may only be because of how the guy was playing it. He does keep going back and re-playing it though.
If you can afford, get both, at least GW has no online fees so once you have bought the game, if you really hate it there are no more fees to pay. There is also a quite healthy market for resale on places like Ebay.
As other posters have said, really depends on how you like your game play, for me personally GW would win if I had to choose.

Oblivion
GW is in decline especially since they have put focus on pure pvp and alot of players left because of some mistakes they made. Oblivion is a far better, more involving game, yes it can get boring but something thats being worked on is a multiplayer mod for oblivion which could rock when its finally finished.

Oblivion is unmarried participant. even with the actuality that oblivion is in all probability larger high quality, and could final you for fifty hours with enlargement packs, guild wars (an mmorpg) will final you for a plenty longer time.

Depends do you want to play with other players? Then you want Guild Wars.Me myself I find it hard to play with other players because of the whole scamming bullshit and you do not know if you can trust them or not.If you want a fun game thats easy to cheat at on the pc then go for Oblivion. You do not have other players to play against so you do not have to worry about someone trying to kill you while your say getting a drink. But its mainly your choice
