Never heard of a top 20 or even top 10 guitarists list, if one exists. I'm a little sick of top 10 lists of anything, as the No.1 in anyone's book must be the performer they like the most, and not the one that others like. So every one has their own top 10 list. When a record reaches No.1 in the charts, it is supposed to be good, but it only gets there because all the idiots buy it, or have to have it because their mate likes it. What about the 20 million who think its rubbish !!!!!!!. Afterthought, anyone can be made to sound good in a studio, and most of the present day performers are absolute crap without the studio. Whatever happened to real talent as I am fed up with people shouting down a microphone and pulling horrible faces as they do it, and they even think, like most, that they can sing. Perhaps all the wannabee singers and guitarists should record thereselves, and then play it back and see what rubbish they are asking us to listen to. Come on Simon, sort us out some real talent for a change. H.

There are, of course, many such lists. They all, however, suffer from the same flawed logic: that there is a BEST guitar player. No one is the best at anything. No matter how tough, smart, or gifted you think you are, there is always someone tougher, smarter, or more talented. Further, music (specifically, but this applies to life in general) is not about best. There are hundreds of genius guitar players, there are thousands incredibly brilliant guitar players, and there are millions of really good guitar players. All of life is like that, and it’s more enjoyable if you understand it that way.

You'd probably get more and better answers if you put this in the Music section where it belongs. Doesn't really have anything to do with politics. And yes, there is such a list, but its all subjective on the part of those doing the voting and listing.
