The Grudge, The Ring, The Shining (very scary), Carrie (the original version), The Descent, Salems Lot, and basically any films that have been made from Stephen King novels, they are all pretty scary. Other less frightening options would be A Nightmare On Elm Street (the first one), Halloween (the first one), Scream (any of them, they were all good and quite funny at times), and if you just want blood and guts, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Friday The 13th (any of them ,there are about 10), any of the Chucky movies - loads of blood and guts. Hope you choose some good ones, enjoy and HAPPY HALLOWEEN to you.

If you haven't seen it yet, Suspiria. It's sort of a demented version of Harry Potter. In fact, Argento originally wanted to cast the film with children, but that was deemed a little too controversial. You can see in the treatment of the characters that they retain child-like qualities. Disturbing stuff.
Edit:
I see someone already recommended Suspiria. So instead I'll say Dark Water (the Japanese original). It's from the same writer and director as Ringu, and it's the least straight up freak-out of the Asian horror wave. It's more a creeping horror, which for me at least has a more lasting effect after the film has ended.

Try to find the film Suspiria. It's hard to find, but you can probably find it on Netflix. The first five or ten minutes will scare you witless and then it becomes an intense psychological suspense/horror. It's always featured on MTV's 100 scariest, but I feel like I'm the only person on earth who has actually seen the film!

Chucky, the original. This is one creepy movie!
Night of The Living Dead by George Romero might be scary for some, but it is a classic and very campy; tons of fun.

I would suggest something by Stephen King, his movie "IT" is pretty creepy. also, watch SAW if you haven't seen is already. Its a good movie to get freaked out by. If you see SAW i would see SAW 2 after it. its not as good as the first but it is still a good movie. also, if you want something good and dark, see the ORIGINAL Texas Chainsaw Massacre. and turn off all the lights. its pretty good.
have fun!
