Do you think the Bush administration is about to do a real aboutface in Iraq or some other major shift, or is all the talk just speculation, fueled by someone? Is it to make the administration look more considering of other ideas, or what?

Please don't give white61water anymore thumbs downs. Reward the old coot's sarcasm. I have. Give only thumbs up to his answer, so long as it stays close to as it is now.

At some juncture, there must be an exit strategy. If the USA is not intending to actually conduct war, then there must be a plan and a time to leave the country of Iraq. The President and our military know this and have known it all along. The only question that needed to be answered was, "When does the USA leave?" Public opinion has little affect. One of two things must happen or both must happen about the same time. 1. Iraqi forces, military and police, must be capable of fighting insurgents and maintaining the peace and/or 2. it must become obvious that Iraq will not ever be able to maintain peace. In the case of #2, our strategy would be to simply say that we've done our part. We've broken the back of Al-Queda, we've toppled Saddam Hussein, we've trained and equipped Iraqi forces. They must be able to solve their own problems. Now it appears as though we have done all that we can do and Iraqi government must do the rest. Then, the USA does a staged withdrawal over a time period of several months to a year.

I saw Bill O'Reilly's interview with the President and it seems to me that The President is resolved to stick with the original plan until the job is done. I'm really not trying to take a swipe at the democrats but, not for nothing, they seem to have developed a bug-out attitude about this conflict just like their daddies did about Viet Nam. I spent 14 months in country and was shot twice. I felt like I accomplished something because, even though 50% of what I was doing was combat, the other 50% was helping people who needed help, right up until the John Kerry types took over.

Remember Tet? In a two month period, we took out more of the enemy than they did during the entire conflict, but somehow, those bug-out experts convinced the public that we were losing. LOSING? We kicked their sorry butts from the triangle to the plains, but the cowards on the left had their way and we bugged out. The result was that about 2 freakin' million of the people who were our friends and who supported us, died or were sent to prison camps. I hope that the Devil is reserving a special place in hell for John Kerry and Jane Freakin' Fonda for what they did. They are personally responsible for a million deaths apiece and I don't know how those two can sleep at night. Now I see the same thing happening again and it makes me want to puke.

I hope that the President stands his ground and I pray that the REAL American people rally behind him. The Lefties can while all they want but their isn't a complete set of testicles between the whole freakin' bunch of them.

See ya. I always leave when the retarded phase ends.

Bushie's dad brought Baker in to advise on Iraq. They have worked out 2 changes of plan that will be announced after the election. i with Republican congress and 1 with Democratic congress.

I believe the President and his advisors realize that their efforts are failing and that it is time to revise their goals concerning Iraq. I'm not sure what they meant by "winning the war" to begin with. Anti-terrorism activity is a constant goal which will probably never be fully achieved. One simply cannot kill every militant extremist there are always more waiting in the wings.

It's a ploy. It's a tactic to make Republicans who are upset with his arrogant handling of the war say 'well, maybe things will get better' and go vote. But in the long run, nothing will change.

EDIT: From Yahoo! News - Bush: I won't change strategy in Iraq.

Whaddaya expect?

Seems to me it is awfully close to an election, for the booshmeister to have a change of hart. He is probably just paying lip service for political gain, the repuglican party is in real trouble and they know it. Take all of what you hear and half of what you see and question it.
