I had stayed in San Diego earlier this year x 3months.
Once you go to the San Diego Zoo and the Sea world, buy their bottomless softdrinks which is designed to be a souvenir too. Be on time as you go to both these places since you have to see the shows on time so that you make make use of what you paid wisely. Be prepared to bring a hat since you have to walk around if the bus is not yet around. You have to do a lot of walking in both areas.
Coronado is a nice place to visit. It boasts of the bridge as one of the tallest in the USA and which was awarded for its design. Hotel Coronado is not just one of the most beautiful hotels in the USA, it is also one of the best in the world. Try walking in around the area.
Take advantage of seeing the whole of San Diego by riding the trolley. Enjoy all places that the trolley can bring you so that you can visualize what San Diego is! There are buses in most trolley station.
Go to the last American exit in San Isidro. There is an outlet store there.
There are historic sites in San Diego such as the Cabrillo Monument, Old Town, Presidio Park, MIssion San Diego = Mission Trail Park, Rancho Penasquitos, San Pascual Battlefield, Mission San Luis Rey, Rancho Guajome. See www.earlysandiego.org/FTOOsites,html. This site gives a description of each place and some details about it.

If you like the zoo try the Wild Animal Park. It's up north a little, I believe about a half hour north of San Diego. Also Balboa Park is beautiful. Old Town is a good historic/tourist place to see.

Well
1) The wild animal park (part of the SD Zoo society) is better than the zoo. The animals are in large free raoming habitats, the tram zips through these, and the displays are world class. The SD zoo is great, but many feel the wild animal park is bettter.
2)good live music places - All over the gas lamp. Get the SD reader or go on line. The gaslamp has more live music on a weekend than you can possibly visit. In encinitas in the cedros design center is the belly up tavern...one of the county best. The Casbah outside the airport is also popular. PB and OB, pacific beach and Ocean Beach have leots of great clubs and live music.
Parks - Balboa of course with the museums. The Anza Borrego desert is great. Torrey pines by the beach...in fact the beach is one big park. Too many park to list but hiking have the pacific coast trail and many others in the area. Palomar mountain with the observatory and trails also is quite nice.
historic sites - The town of Julian...aplle pies and gold mine. Old town and the gaslamp.

For sure Old Town San Diego. Want Mexican food, go to Old Town Mexican Cafe. The most interesting thing in Old Town is Bazaar Del Mundo. Wonderful shopping.
Then go to LaJolla Cove. Beautiful and so is the Village.
Go to the top of Mount Soledad and you can see for many miles the whole San Diego county area. Take your camera.
Mexico is just a few miles south. You could go there also.
The Gas Lamp quarter in San Diego is very interesting also.
Have fun.

There are lots of fun places in San Diego! I highly recommend the San Diego Wild Animal Park. It's theme park that has wild animals in their natural environment. It's the closest thing to an African safari that you'll see aside from actually going to Africa.
