I remember one time going for a walk in the dark prairie with a German shepherd. I heard a very loud rumbling approach. I timidly shined my weak flashlight and saw many shiny eyes approaching fast. I had no idea what sort of demons were attacking me and it scared the #$@^$$!!! out of me. Turned out it was just a bunch of cows protecting their calves from my dog. They stopped and I felt pretty silly for being so scared

Yes, its scary at first when 20 or so cows come running towards you... you do have to be careful that the bull isnt in the field with them and never run because they will chase you..LOL seriously they are really curious and they will follow what you do if you arent careful you could end up getting hurt but not intentionally by the cows they are just really not that bright and they could trample you accidentally. Or squish you between them... in most cases they think you have food and may jostle you quite a bit but cows are pretty docile and they usually wont purposely hurt you... only the bulls do that trying to protect the herd. It isnt something to be scared of just be respectful of the animals size and strength and make sure to respect thier babies too...

Last summer I was in a field school in archaeology. Our dig site was in a cow pasture. Those of us who grew up in the city started out a little nervous with the cows, and the country people just laughed at us. Cows are pretty docile.
But if the "cow" has just one "teat" I'd give it a wider berth. ;)

Cows aren't gonna touch you if you don't get it their way. Back in Colombia a few years ago I used to walk through a field of cows all the time and they didn't even notice I was there. They know that humans feed them and that they'll die if they get annoying so they don't bother

Yeah Nicolai....cows may be conditioned to know that you feed them....but do you think they know when you're packin' too? Then sit around and think about it when you're not around as they listen to I-pods bought from their secretive club Cow-Bay?

Bulls are sometimes agressive, but cows should just ignore you.
