I'm sorry you've been given so many stupid and immature responses, I think of the list here you have maybe two or three that are worth taking notice of.
I have lived with severe depression for ten years now, and yes, laughter can help, the trouble with that is, at the very worst of a depressive mood, laughter is the last thing in the world you feel up to doing.
As for going for natural 'remedies' they only work in mild cases of depression. I know, I've tried them. St John's Wort was meant to be the panacea we all had waited for, it actually made my symptoms ten times worse and can't be used in conjunction with any prescribed medications for that reason.
Talking therapies are wonderful, if you are lucky enough to live in an area where they are readily available. I didn't and had to go on the waiting list, which was three to four years long. In the meantime the only option available to deal with the suicidal feelings and thoughts I was struggling with was to take meds.
It was a minefiled and I tried many many different ones, at different dosages, sometimes even two or three different ones combined. None of them made much impact, some had a very numbing effect which meant I felt nothing, and in some ways that was worse than feeling the depression.
Eventually after years of hit and miss attempts, I was prescribed efexor. It doesn't agree with everyone, but for me it has been a wonder drug. I am on a very high dosage, because the university in the area I live is attached to a hospital that does drug trials for clinical depression and they discovered that the safest dosage of efexor could be as high as 500mg per day, so currently I take just below that, and also have trazodone alongside. I have felt better this past 12 months than I have in years. I now also have talking therapy and am beginning to clear away the obstacles that had created the situations that led to my depression.
It has been a long journey with lots of disappointments along the way, finding the right anti depressant for anyone is not easy. However, I am not ashamed to take them and neither should anyone else with genuine clinical depression. There is no stigma to taking insulin or heart medication, and there should be none where depression is concerned given that it is the illness most commonly treated by doctors in the UK now.
Another answer above mine said the best medication is the one prescribed by your doctor, and I endorse that practical advice. They will talk in depth to you, assess your depression and your needs and prescribe what seems best for your situation. They take a little while to kick in, but if you see no real improvement after a month, then go back and try something else.
They symptoms of depression are terrible and need proper medical care. No-one needs to do it alone

Vitamin B12 it just relaxes and calms you, and you don't need to get it from the doctor. Odviously it is not going to work the 1st day but I found that combining that with walking, swimming, hiking, or some outside activity really helps. I hope you feel better. It sucks to be depressed.
