It is a sad thing, the adoption of an alien accent or cultivation of mannered speech. It is due in the main, to the influence of rap,and black American culture, big on style, low in content, which appeals to a certain class/economic grouping of youngsters. It is the language of the streets, sadly the users of this "language with an inferiority complex", are stuck with it. The children of the great English language, talking tripe, unable to form sentences,an insult to their mother tongue.

Well the ones who are from Jamaica would naturally speak with a Jamaican accent.
The other, especially the white kids, are likely just buying into this "Wigga" culture like they have in America.
Its a bit sad really. They should treasure their own culture not try to copy someone else's. They should be proud to speak like Cockneys!

Same reason I guess that they all spoke (some still do) with Aussie accents about 15 years ago when neighbours was popular. A lot of girls still say 'nou' instead of 'no' !

Know what you mean. A kind of Patois.
Still, better than speaking like a Yank.

That's frickin' hilarious...I think it's the desire to sound cool, be cool, and "identify" with a culture thought of as such...
