Ok, I have a 94 honda civic-

no,sorry,you have to take off the strut,especially the 2 bottom bolts.if your worried about alighnment,ill tell you what to do.take some spray paint and spray around the bottom bolts,then you can put the strut back in the same place where it was.the strut is bolted on the axle housing and thats why you got to take out the bolts.

No I don't think you have to take the strut bolts out. The tie rod,the ball joint,and the axle nut.Then use a large pry bar to pry the the contol arm and get the lower ball joint Out of it. Then you can pull out on the whole Assembly together and turn the assembly to get the axle out of the spindle. The Assembly will still be together when you do this so your alignment should not be affected when you put it back together.

If Honda hasn't changed for a while, they have a double wishbone suspension. That said, you have to at least unbolt the lower bolt from the control arm in order lo get the lower ball joint loose. That way you can pull the steering knuckle out far enough to get the axle loose from the bearing. You should do an alignment when finished to ensure good tire wear. Don't paint your car to ensure realignment. It isn't precise.
