My child spilled red cherry koolaid on my freshly shampooed carpets. I have ran the steam cleaner over it several time and have left it there sitting even to remove the stain to no avail. We initially tried that oxyclean stain remover and that just made it worse. I've seen ads for cleaners that are specifically for red dye removal but there pricey (usually 20 bucks a bottle). Is there a cheaper way without ruining the fibers of the carpet. Help!!! Thanks!!!

Carpet guy had the only answer that might work, except when applying iron to damp white cotton towel the iron must have water in it and set on low steam setting, just placing the iron on towel on low heat will not open up the dye sytes of the carpet. In trigger sprayer bottle mix 3 tablespoons of what you use to clean dishes by hand(Joy, Palmalive, etc.) with one cup peroxide, fill with hot water. Spray area with solution, lay your damp white towel over the area sprayed, then place iron on towel adding slight pressure to iron hold down for no longer than 30 second intervals. After the first heat transfer process lift up towel and inspect for the transfer of the red dye if present keep repeating process by respraying area and rinseing towel each time.

Dye stains are one of the hardest to get out the carpet. I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot water (from a kettle) on he spot and vacuum it up at the same time, (this will remove the residue from the stain). If the stain is still visible than try putting dishwashing soap (2 or 3 drops into one cup of water. Dampen a white towel with the soap and water and lay it over the stain. Then place a clothes iron on the top of the stain. Make sure the setting is on "LOW". Let this sit for about ten minutes DO NOT press down (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain). The stain will start to transfer into the cloth. Keep on using a clean area in the cloth. Repeat until there is no more dye transfer to the cloth. After this you should rinse the area again with the wet vac and water.

Wow! This really does work! I filled the spray bottle with a couple tablespoons of dish soap and 1/2 a container of hydrogen peroxide. filled the rest with hot water and sprayed the stain. Dampened a white towel and place an iron on towel on top of stain for at least 10 min. Miraculously the stain disappeared!
