There are a couple of things I do to make it smell nice in my house.
1. Get a box of baking soda and some essential oils. In a plastic bowl, pour the baking soda and add a few (go easy on it!) drops of oil. I use 10 drops of lavender, 5 drops of Tea tree, and 5 drops of lemon oil. Mix the oils & baking soda together well, as lumps will stain your carpet. Sprinkle this on your carpet at night before you go to bed. Vacuum it up the next day.
2. Put orange peels, star anise, and cinnamon sticks in a small pot of water and simmer for a bit on the stove.
If any of these aren't doing it for you, try AromaWeb. It's an aromatherapy web site. They have a "recipe box" section that has air fresheners and things like that. Using natural essential oils are much better than regular air fresheners because they are real scents, not chemicals.
Hope this helped you!

Ever notice the nice scent where Candles are sold, also not they are not burning any candles, - place a large one in the Cold air return vent for your furnace and A/C, if one don't work add another, or try some Incense flakes- that come in a jar - leave lid off or cracked open.

Dried orange and lemon peels, cloves, cinnamon sticks. Peel the fruit and let it dry naturally. Cloves are in any supermarket, as well as cinnamon sticks. Another scent is to buy a twig of vanilla and place it in your bathroom on a small dish.
