I work with premature babies and have had a few get RSV. They end up going to the hospital and some can even die from it. This is why it's very important to keep your premature baby away from other children until their immune systems are built up more. It's also important to make sure people wash their hands nefore touching your baby. Most children will get RSV at least once before they are 4 years old, but most parents dont know it because it looks like a cold and the child fights it off with no problem. Babies that are born prematurely can not fight it on their own.

Yes I worked in an infant room of a daycare for several years and we had a bout of RSV go around. I had a baby that was about 11 weeks old but had been a preemie (born at 31 weeks) and she was hospitalized for RSV when all the other babies got it. She ened up fine but did remain the hospital for over a week on oxygen. It is a very serious illness and needs to be taken as such.

My good friend had her baby at 29 weeks and he was in the hospital for maybe a month because he was born so early. He developed RSV sometime after he came home though and since then he's more prone to colds and sicknesses than the average baby. He's now 2 and a half.

Hello,

My twins were born preemies at 32 weeks and they did not have RSV. They were given a shot every 2 months to prevent it.

My twins are now 11.5 months old.

Sorry I could not help you...

Preemies are more likely to get RSV. There is a monthly shot that you can get for your baby during the cold season to help prevent him/her from getting it. My baby was 37 wks, but 4 lb 11 oz and my doc tried to get him that shot since he was so little. They denied him since he was 37 wks. I think the criteria is 34 weeks. A friend of mine whose baby was born at 34 weeks, 4 lb 14 oz., was able to get her son the shot. I think most of it was covered by insurance.

My son was born at 29 weeks, but he got that vaccine for RSV and never got it.
My friends baby was full term, didn't get the vaccine, and got RSV.
I think every baby should get the RSV vaccine.
