Why would you kick a field goal on a 3rd down anyway? Why not just try for a first before you kick?

if u miss it, then i counts as an attempt. if u mess up the hold and keep the ball it can be tried again from that spot as the new line of scrimmage

no they kick it on third down when times running out a lot so if its a bad snap the holder can fall on it and they would have another shot to kick it witha good snap.
