My husband and I are a young couple, and I am five weeks pregnant. People around us have this habit of asking if we're expecting yet, and it happens everywhere... church, work, family gatherings, etc. Now if these people were complete strangers, I would have no problem telling them to mind their own business. But how do I answer nicely and politely to people that are close or know well? I really don't want to tell anyone just yet, and so far, I've been lucky, no one's asked since we found out. I can't be rude, but yet I don't want to tell the truth. Anyone have any ideas what to say, maybe in a joking way, to answer without admitting we're expecting? I don't want to lie and flat out say NO though... Suggestions please!!! for each of these:

*family
*close friends
*co-workers
*people at church

Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions!!

Just say "are you saying you think I have gained weight?" I can't believe it- I have been working out. run with it and change the subject. Good luck- it won't be long and you will have to fess up. Play innocent and tell them "oh, wouldn't that be nice" or "we would love to be", you can always claim you found out later than you did. Honestly, it's nobody's business until you want to tell them.

My husband and I didn't let anyone know we were TTC because of this very reason. We are currently 8 weeks and no one has a clue (We are waiting till the end of the first trimester, which is also Thanksgiving so it works out well) But you'll just need to either say to them nope not yet, or tell them you are and deal with it. Good luck with your baby.♥

you could let them know that is a personal question and it's not really any of their business...at least you could say that to the co-workers and church members.

as far as family and friends: someone I know said " After last night, who knows?, we might be". And that is how she responded everytime someone asked that question

How rude that they ask. Maybe something along the lines of "We're always hoping" or "We do look forward to having a family".

People asked me that all the time with my boyfriend. I usually just laughed and said "Eh, one day." Now we are 22 weeks pregnant, and almost everyone knows.

Your better off just saying "No" instead of sugar coating it with a joke. There gonna think your lying anyway. Or just say I don't know yet...LOL but you should what works for you!

Just say what I would, "we are trying." or "we're working on it." I is simple easy, but can lead to more asking. But anyway you put it, it leads to more asking. I know it is annoying to deal with, but it is all the fun of being in that position.

this is always the nicest way to tell someone something like that...

"When we know something, you will find out. Until then, we are just happy enjoying our married life!"
