I'm not a KTM expert, but here's what I imagine the differences are:

Gearing (internal ratios), electrical system (enduro needs lights), street legality (depending on the state).

EXC has the lighting coil, and usually some other differences from the MCX models, also a larger fuel tank. You don't mention which ones you're looking at - but the engines are usually very similar, with the four strokes sometimes sporting different cam profiles and a different transmission (more wide ratio for the EXC).

Chassis have been extremely similar between the two the past 5 years or so.

I've found it's easier to motocross the EXC occasionally, than it is to trail ride the MXC frequently.

Hope this helps!

The exc probably has a wide or a semi-wide ratio gear box. The sx is geared real low to do jumps in a stadium. If you are looking to ride in the woods, enduro, or cross country racing the exc is a good choice. I have a 2007 250XCF W four stroke. My intentions are to enduro it, but I have had it on a motocross track and it jumps very well.

the sx has a close ratio gear box the gears are whats called closer together you shift sooner . the exc has a longer gear ratio its not as quick off the start but has more top end. as far as gas milage the exc will get better but not enought to matter unless your wide open all the time
