Well, like everyone else said -
Microsoft Disc Operating System.
Back in the day, that's how you got into a computer.
You'd use the DOSshell, which was just a black screen where you'd type in commands like C:\Programs\Lemmings.exe to get the game Lemmings to play.
Nowadays we have Windows, which makes everything a lot easier because all we have to do is point and click, but everything you click is linked to one of those commands!

MicroSoft Disc Operating System, and it was NOT the first. In fact it was very late to market in 1981, when many other operating systems were in use: CP/M, which MS-DOS was reverse engineered from, Tandy's (Radio Shack) TR-DOS, Apple's DOS, were all out well before MS-DOS. MS-DOS was basically a copy of CP/M, and it was limited to 16-bit access, or 64K. Memory swapping got it up to 640K and eventually 1 MB of RAM. Many of the problems with MS-DOS caused Windows to be the problem filled OS it is today, since Windows was developed using MS-DOS. Early versions of Windows ran as a gui shell on top of MS-DOS, and even XP still shows it's ugly MS-DOS roots in its command line.

the Microsoft Disk Operating System was the initial microsoft platform for running a PC. It later was the base progam that you could run Microsoft's early Windows 3.1 etc. Then MS used it to run behind Windows. Now it has been incorperated into Windows.

DOS was the first operating system of them all. MS is coming from Microsoft if i can good remember, and that is because they got the license on it. i hope that is enough. aaaah an operating system is smth like Windows or Linux, it helpes your computer work. the difference between the last two and MS-DOS is that MS-DOS had no graphical support.
