All supporters of all teams are naturally selfish. What I mean by that is they want the best for their team - and rightly so. They want to win titles, cups, have the best players and play attractive football. The bigger the club, the greater the expectations on their shoulders. Liverpool are historically a successful club and over the years fans have become accustomed to them winning, and like any habit, when what you are used to is withdrawn, you react to it and crave the thing even more. This is what has happened to many a supporter, and Liverpool fans are no different. They see their club as the best team - that's why they support them, and having historically been used to wining more than they lose they find it difficult to accept when it happens. With this club I think it is partly due to putting too much emphasis on past success, but also to having expectations which in recent years have more often than not fallen short, especially in the leauge. Human response to underachieving is to shift blame and avoid responsibility for it. Do I think Liverpool supporters think their team is superior? Of course I do. Do they always find an excuse other than their team when they lose? Some no doubt do. It is natural to defend those who you are loyal to rather than attack them. You have probably met Liverpool fans of the same opinion and approach to defeats, namely defending their club against criticism no matter the circumstances surrounding defeat. Are they right? Who am I to say?

Stems back to the period 1974-1990 when they won everything under the sun. They are the most successful English football team in terms of silverware. They haven't done too badly over the past 6 years either. 6 major and 4 not so major trophies. Some cracking games too.
Every football club's supporters reckon their team is hard done by when they lose. Come into my workplace and listen to the chefs who support West Ham and Spurs. Every referee seems to be against them, the poor little loves! It's the same with Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea. Me, me, me, self, self, self.
