Festus was happy that morning. As he started across the dusty main street of Dodge, heading for the Longbranch for a cup of coffee with the Gunsmoke Gang, he started singing one of his inane songs..."I'VE GOT SPURS THAT JINGLE,JANGLE JINGLE." He could be heard from those inside the bar..."Oh Lord, here comes that OLD MAN.....RIVERS!!" Doc shouted to the man at the next table...If you SMOKE,SMOKE,SMOKE THAT CIGARETTE, you're going to kill yourself!" Rivers looked sheepish.."I know Doc..don't worry, I'll quit next week." As Festus made his way over to the table where his friends were sitting, a man stood on a table , clapping his hands and dancing like Walter Brennan on a drunken dance floor...."I want to make an announcement. THE OUTLAWS PRAYER group is meeting tonight at the town hall. Bring yer favorite gal and yer Gideon." Festus looked proudly at the man, as he climbed down from the table..."THAT SILVER HAIRED DADDY OF MINE sure does know how to get people's attention. " Yeah, he's a regular crowd pleaser," said Matt as he sipped his coffee, ogling Kitty all the while. Kitty looked at him, then looked coyly up the stairs at her room. Matt stood up, unhitched his gunbelt and let out a "Yipee ky A A A A !!!"

Travlin down that Old Man Rivers I noticed that something was amiss. I saw That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine and he was motioning me over to the other side of the steamboat. He told me that trouble was bound to happen today. Sure enough, I saw Jesse James and the Kid, so I said The Outlaws Prayer. My boots were a little dusty but I've Got Spurs that Jingle, Jangle, Jingle and they let me high-tail it out of there. My Daddy didn't make it out okay, so I just will wait here and Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that Cigarette of mine.

I was riding along Old Man Rivers land, with that Silver Haired Daddy of mine. We were running from the law, and I think we had all muttered The Outlaws Prayer. I was worried that we might get caught, because I've Got Spurs that Jingle, Jangle, Jingle. Smoking is a nervous habit of my daddy's, so when he lit up, I jokingly said, "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette.

"Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette," is all I heard at that wild party, thrown at Old Man Rivers empty, abandoned house. We were celebrating that crazy cowboy was gone, not dead, but at least out of Texas! Yeeehaaw! There were bins upon bins of beer and the crazy teens of my town, Austin, were drinking like there was no tomorrow. I think before I got drunk they were playing one of Rivers' songs that he played to scare us away from here. It went:
I've got spurs that Jingle, Jangle, Jingle,
Jingle, Jangle, Jingle,
Jingle, Jangle, Jingle
And That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine
Got Spurs going into that horse's side
To speed up...
Well, after that part I couldn't even remember how I found out about the party. After the cigarette, I stood up and saw a letter under my shoe. It read:
Dear Sam Rivers,
To my cowboy on his 16th birthday I give you this house, keep it safe and clean. Make mom proud and don't miss me too much, I just don't have the strength to live on. Say the outlaw prayer everytime you miss me.
~Mom
