In TV adverts for dolls (such as Barbie) the voiceover person always says "Each doll sold separately". Why do they do this?

I assume there's some legal reason, but I can't imagine a court case where a toy company were sued for selling dolls in separate boxes.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm in the UK - do they do this in the USA and other countries too?

To clarify: I am asking why they SAY "each doll sold separately" rather than why they DO sell dolls separately.

They say "each doll sold separately" because they don't want to confuse the watchers..sometimes they show, for example, five dolls, they would have to say that so that the watchers don't think all those dolls are being sold together. I've worked at a store before and people to come in and expect to buy all for one proce but really they are sold in parts, not together as a whole. Hope this helped.

They do it to make more money
If they put 2 dolls in one box which both are about $12 each but are together $24, then the costumer will pay about $27. But if they sell them separately for $12 each, they will make about $30 dollars. 3 dollars starts to add up after a while

I'm sure people probably complained about how the commercial made it look like you were getting more than one doll or something, so they cover there *** by saying each doll sold separately.

yes they do that in the USA, i think that they do that so when people go to the stores they aren't like well where is the other doll, it never said that you have to buy BOTH, so then the people that work there can say no its says each doll sold separetley!

I think it's because they advertise her with all her plastic friends and children will think that you get them when you buy the Barbie so they say you have to buy each doll separate so children aren't disappointed. I think it is a legal requirement otherwise consumers could sue for them being misled. =D

most of the toy makers they do not bundle the dolls together,,say ken and barbie together.. this is purely for sales purposes.. make sense to sell each item separately

If these are items from the original movie you could sell them thru an auction house specializing in film memorabilia.
