Can't speak for your home computer, but it's not unusual for businesses to institute policies that prevent saving of usernames and passwords. That's a significant security risk.

Firefox does have an option that you must enable to be able to save username and password information. Dig through the options.

Firefox should have the ability to save credentials, you may need to go to the Preferences to find the setting.

NOTE: A lot of times it is turned off as a Security Precaution. It defeats the purpose of having a password if you choose not to use it (plus you increase the chance that you will forget it if you don't use it regularly)

Most likely, you are trying to save a Kerberos username and password.

What might be happening is that the domain name you are saving it for has a timestamp and therefore, the name continuously changes. Your browser thinks it's a different domain and asks for a username and password everytime you visit the site.

I have not found a workaround for this, but my assumption is that the site intended for you to enter your username and password everytime you logged in.
