Hello all! I have a multifunction switch on my 2000 Buick. Cruise control, turn signals, hazards and wipers all function on it. Everything is working right now except my turn signals. They were working intermittently yesterday and now they don't work at all (which can obviously be a dangerous thing). This is my only vehicle. Does anyone have suggestions of things I can try before replacing the switch? It costs like $400!

I wanted to add that the green lights on the dash don't come on when I flip the switch to use the turn signals.

I changed the fuse and they started working briefly, now they are not working again. The hazard lights are also not working now.

."mechanics" on this forum sure don't listen. Bulbs, flasher, fuse.
The secret is you don't talk loud enough, THE HAZARD SIGNALS WORK !!
I hope I read you correctly, if not, I will have to apologise.
If hazard signals are working and not turn signals it MAY be the switch. $400 is a big ripoff, you must be at a dealer. If so RUN and go find a mechanic that knows how to diagnose problems. It must be the switch, I think, for $400 maybe it will solve the problem.
Make a deal. if no deal go elsewhere till someone will meet the deal. Here is the deal. Always, for any repair work.
I will accept your offer to repair the problem. If your diagnosis is wrong and the problem is not solved, I will pay only for parts. Go to an auto supply ahead of time and see what a new turn signal switch costs. If they charge you more than 20 % additional you are getting ripped again.
Go for it don't get ripped off

OK AM I SPEAKING LOUD ENOUGH! Many cars these days have a seperate flasher for the hazzard lights and the turn signals. Check your flasher Switch the one out from your hazzard lights and swap it with the one for your turn signals. If this fixes the problem get a new flasher. If the fuse is blowing check and make sure it has the right amperage rating that is listed for the flashers on the fuse box cover.
If none of that works, try moving your tilt steering into another position. There could be a wire shorted in the steering column and moving the tilt steering may move it to another position it won't short at.

You'd need to poke around with a voltmeter to find out for sure. I think the green light would come on steady if the flasher was bad, but I'm not sure on a Buick. Taking the steering wheel off to change the switch isn't all that easy, but $400 is out of line. It can be done in an hour. Some mechanics tend to mark up parts about 300% too.

Yes it's probably a bad bulb and make sure it's the right bulb stated too , plus change the signal flasher unit and the 4 way flasher unit.I'd probably go to a do it yourself auto wreckers and pick up extra bulbs and flasher units etc for that vehicle bec there should be lots of them around and it's a lot cheaper. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way have you've tried turning on the 4 ways to see what occurs and if same results indeed it's a bad bulb.I only recommended changing the flasher units bec sometimes one flasher unit affects the other.

The problem of your cars turn signal/hazard circuit could be solved by an exp. auto-tech. Guessing and replacing parts could be stressful and exspensive. Many quality car-repair shops would love to help solve this type of problem and charge fairly for correctly finding and recommending repair. Good luck!

The most likely cause is a blown fuse, and next would be burnt out turn signal bulbs. Make sure the bulbs are well seated in their sockets, and check all exposed wiring to the sockets.
