I'm no doctor, but I do know that the baby takes everything first. That's why morning sickness isn't population control. (Although Mom's with EXTREME morning sickness are sometimes admitted to hospital because they become badly dehydrated and need fluids.)
If the mother was consciously TRYING to be anorexic she would probably get very sick with the baby taking even more from her. The baby might survive and be sickly too at birth.
If the nutrients were missing from Mom's diet in the first trimester the baby might survive but develop with problems as this is when most of the baby's systems are developing, later in pregnancy the baby is primarily gaining weight (a low birth-weight baby isn't off to a great start either if it can be avoided, that's why smoking isn't suggested... it can be a contributing factor to low birth-weight.)
I sure hope this is just a hypothetical question and no one you know is trying to control pregnancy weight gain, or hide a pregnancy by "becoming" anorexic. This would be a really terrible idea.
Take care.

I would think this is more of a question of an anorexic woman getting pregnant and worrying that her disease will kill her baby. The truth is, the first trimester is when critical formations are occurring in the baby. If nutrients are being deprived from the baby, it may not die, but would probably have abnormalities such as organs not developing correctly.
The baby would not gain weight adequately and would not flourish. I'm afraid it would not be a healthy infant if it lived.
Best to see a doctor and get some counseling.

No not necessary. The baby will get the nutrients it needs one way or another, most likely the woman would be very sick because the baby will still all nutrients she has stored in her body and if she wasn't anoeexic to begin with the baby would have a lot to feed on. Most likely the baby would be born premature and underweight. But I do not believe the baby would die in womb.

You don't want to eat just a bunch of calories. That’s not really the answer to gaining weight if you have a high metabolism. The best thing you can do is to go to your doctor and have thorough blood work done. This is to see if there is something wrong like an over active thyroid or if anything is out of balance. If everything is normal, discuss what you eat with your doctor. Make sure you keep a food diary for a couple weeks before you go. He/She may have suggestions or may refer you to a nutritionist. Good luck, don't be discouraged if you are healthy.......

The baby would likely die from mal nuritishment. If this is happening to someone you know you should bring them to a doctor or stage an intervention. The father of the baby would have rights and this could be an interesting legal precedent.

more then likely. THe baby gets nutrients from the food the mother provides. If the mother stopped taking in nutrients, her body could start living off her fat for a while, but the baby has no fat in its own body to live off of. Yep, the baby would die, and the mother probably would too.

The baby could die and so could the mother. Or she could give birth to a baby with all kinds of problems. She should stay healthy and give the baby a fighting chance. If she doesn't want it she could give it to someone who does.

it would just make the mom very ill. The baby will take what it has to have. That's a very retarded way to have a abortion starving yourself. You would wind up very sick in the hospital and possibley having a baby born too early fighting for it's life. CALL A ABORTION CLINIC be smart about it if that's what must be done. Sad one would even think of doing this.

yes, it's a high risk situation both for the mother and the baby. Baby won't get all the nutrients he needs to develop properly...taking away from the mom what he needs, making the mom more ill.
