Look to Duck, Corolla or Southern Shores. They are way less crowded and still close to restaurants and other activities. We have a house less than a mile south of Duck. There are just as many, if not more rentals farther south (Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head) but they are also much more crowded and surrounded by touristy crap. When you rent a beach house, they are broken into two categories, sound side and ocean or beach side. Pick beach side and you won't have to cross the busy main road. Try for a house on a dead end or no outlet road. That really cuts down on the collateral beach traffic. If you need help with securing a rental contact Twiddy in Duck. If you want more info or have more questions, feel free to shoot me a message. I've been around the world and the OBX is still my favorite place on earth.

I wouldn't worry about restaurants etc. The Outer Banks are all about beauty and solitude. First, find a rental that you love. A nice seafood restaurant will be no more than 20 minutes away.

Have a great trip!
