Ive recently found out, i dont know if its true or not that John Lennon had learning disabilities in other words he was within the autistic spectrum.
Please dont be insulted as i am a big fan of his and my son is autistic, this is a genuine question.

Not everyone with learning disabilities is on the autistic spectrum.
There are many people who think Bill Gates has Asperger's. Some people suspect even Albert Einsein may have been! But I never heard anything about John Lennon.

I don't know if it's true but it's not impossible. Not all forms of Autism are as severe as the Dustin Hoffman charactre in Rain Man. Some milder forms of autism go practically unnoticed. Except for the fact that all autists have a need for strict regulation in their life. Other symptoms are very diverse. And in some occasions Autism does indeed have some positive effects on the brain too.

I don't think this is true - he may have had behaviour problems, but from all accounts he always had a quick wit and wasn't backward about letting it show. He was vary short-sighted and in his early life was too self-conscious to wear glasses - this may have caused SOME learning problems.
I've been a big Lennon fan for over 40 years, and I don't find your question insulting at all - I can understand why you asked it.
Incidentally, where did you hear this about John?

Apparently John Lennon was virtually dislexic and was privately coached to read and write after school by an ex schoolteacher who lived nearby. The lady teacher had the patience of a Saint and got John reading and writing better than the system could manage. It just goes to show you don't you think!

I havent heard this, but I suppose it could be possible.
I used to look after elderly men with learning disabilities and I often think if they had been born in the last 10 years, how many of them would have been diagnosed as autistic rather than written off as "retarded" and put in an institution.

I have heard of many autistic (even severely autistic) people having incredible talents. Not just musical ability either.
I don't know about John Lennon specifically.

Well. Autism is within the OCD spectrum, along with trichotillomania, CSP, anorexia/bulimia, ADHD, aspergers, BDD and some others I can't recall right now. Whatever he had, I reckon he did pretty well, dont you? I mean, whats in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Whatever disorder a person has, they are still also uniquely themselves.

in history there have been many who have seemed to have limitations only to excel in other areas - the Lord grants us the abilities and the strength to try from there He needs us to have as an individual person -
you have been blessed with this child - he is no less of a person in God's eyes -
loved and to be loved .......
encourage him to do all that he can do and be - for he is uniquely him
he is blessed to have you as well!
