Think about it: Whatever you do as a human being actually HURTS the environment. If you think deep, you'll see:

For you to drink a glass of water, it was necessary to either drain an underground water reservoir or to dam a river.

For you to eat your veggies, fields had to be deforested for farmland, and herbi-and-pesti-cides had to be sprayed over crops.

For you to be born, your Mom had to be driven to a hospital, which caused the vehicle to release greenhouse gases.

For you to use the very computer you're using now, hydrocarbons had to be turned into plastics, metals had to be mined and molten, silicon had to be chemically treated and the whole machine had to be built and shipped, causing lots of pollution.

Even a walk in the park pollutes.

What do you say?

Actually there was just a special on NOVA that said that the amount of pollution in the air may actually be slowing down the process of global warming! The sun cannot penetrate as strongly through all the pollutants..therefore not warming up the earth as much! Yes, everything we do tampers with the environment, but we can tamper in a good way as well. All tampering is not bad.

I agree with the guy above me, every species tampers with the environment. Termites build homes as small hills as hard as concrete where nothing can grow, and release methane (a global warming gas). Elephants tear down forests and also release methane. The very act of breathing, or taking a poop affects the environment.

To some extent, this helps the ecosystem. In excess, any one species can toss the system out of balance.

when you think you don't pollute more than when you don't - so you could argue that thinking doesn't harm the environment ;-)

this being said, can you think of a single animal whose acts do not tamper with the environment? But that's part of the ecosystem.

there may just be too many of us, and we may be trying to do too many things.

Laying on your back and using your eyes to watch the sky move across the horizon does not pollute the enviornment.

Breathing.

Plants adore my carbon dioxide. They like it so much, they give me oxygen in return. Completely 'at peace' with the environment.

Well all things change the environment - that is at it should be. Change is not necessarily bad.

Yup, you're right. Do you advocate mass suicide to save the planet?
