I loved it. This was a finely crafted novel about real life...it meanders, it skips in places, and it's filled with the kind of beautiful moments that make up a life...in this case it happens to be Gogol Ganguli. The book is just storytelling at its finest.

I loved the book. The protagonist is an Indian boy named after a Russian author. The book vividly portrays clashes in culture and what it is like growing up as a second generation immigrant.

The plot was very thin and very little happens. She begins with the interesting idea that names carry power. But this cannot sustain an entire novel, and it certainly dragged.

I suspect Lahiri is much more able to craft great short stories, but novels require several ideas, not just one.
