i was thinking of a career in psychiatry, but i want to know, how much do they make yearly, and how many years of study does it take to become one?
(& if someone can compare how much money a laywer makes, and how much money a psychiatrist makes, that would be great too.)

First you need to get a bachelor's degree (most likely in one of the sciences such as biology, chemistry, etc..), then you have to apply to and get into medical school (that's 4 years for bachelors and then 3 years for medical school) After that, you will need apply and get accepted for a residency program in psychiatry (which will take 4-5 years depending on your area of concentration). You will be paid during your residency, however, it is a minimal amount compared to the long hours you will be working. Also, all told your debt (and this is a very conservative estimate) would probably be well over $100,000 and up (unless your family is very very well to do and can afford to foot the bill).
Starting physicians do not make much money in a group practice until they get established patients and more experience. Those in private practice make nothing until they have a good volume of patients. Most physicians work an average of about 50 hours a week or more...some less obviously. With the amount of responsibility and culpibility physicians have regarding their patients, am not that if someone is looking at medicine as a career "for the money" if that would necessarily be such a good idea!

This is an informational website put out by the government. Just type in any career you are interested in, and it will tell you how much people in that field make, what kind of education you need to get, whether or not there are a lot of jobs in the field, etc.
