For example, and this is just one example, there are many LOL. I bought my kids finger paint, because I thought it would be so much fun. When I got it out for them to use I was so uptight about them getting it everywhere and using it like lotion on there hands. I didn't yell or anything, but inside I felt so uptight and nervous like. What can I do to loosen up a bit?

Okay, sure you've already discarded what everyone has said about drinking but just in case you haven't....yeah, that will loosen ya up a lil bit, BUT NOT a good idea, this is how it started out with my dad when I was a kid, and it got pretty bad, of course he didnt intend it to go that far, he just wanted to relax, like you. well, long story short...he's been to jail b/c of drinking and driving, he drove us around a lot when we were little while he was totally intoxicated. so no matter what people say alcohol isnt the answer...it can also cause depression. then you would be an up tight depressed person all the time! anyway...I am extremely uptight with my one yr old and my husband plays really rough with him in my opinion...we have gotten in many yelling cussing fights over this, but in reality it is just me blowing it out of proportion...what i hvae done to work on this is when i start to tense up....and feel like im fixin' to blow up...b/c thats how i handled it, I have started thinking about how much i love my husband and son and trying hard to enjoy the time and accept that boys are going to be rough, and I just need to have peace. like when your kids have the paint out...well you could always put them in some old raggedy clothes and lay down a big old yucky sheet in the kitchen or even go outside if weather permits....and just focus on enjoying being a mom, and worrying about stuff like that is just being a mom. but dont let it eat at you. i've learned that anxiety and worry takes a lot more energy than it does to do enjoy the moment...and it just takes so much out of being a mom.

In terms of thinking, try being more flexible in terms of your goals or "shoulds." Think, for example, as the kids paint on themselves, "Oh, they can wash it off later anyway," or "Anyway, my intention in buying them this paint was for them to have fun, and they are!" Open-minded thinking that may incorporate humor helps. Of course, I'm not telling you to let go completely of all control, I'm just saying to let go of some things that are not so important to uphold. Join in the fun, see things from other people's perspective yet still maintain what really matters to you.

Mindfulness of your physical arousal (heart rate, muscle tension), breathing exercises and voluntary muscle relaxation (there are some therapists or classes that teach this) will also definitely help.

For me, a couple of beers do the trick. For you, maybe you just have to go do something with the kiddies and let loose. Do it again and let them get it everywhere. Once you see the world doesn't come to an end, maybe you'll chill out. Get the kind of paint that's washable.

I live in Utah, which happens to be the hightes prozac comsumpiton per capita state in the us, which probably makes it the highest per capita in the world, and you know what the problem is? ... they do not drink, drinking is good. Please do not misunderstand, I am not saying get drunk drive your car and hurt some poor child, but have a glass of wine and maybe a cigarette and you will feel so much better, other than that, a hot bath or self mutilation are two of my favorites

To quote a now lunatic Scientoligist, "some times you just gotta say, what the f**k?". In other words, chose your battles.

I personally adopted the mantra " in 10 years, who's gonna know the difference".

Grab some vicodin, a glass of wine, and get laid. You'll feel like a new person...
