Hey there. The 1st wal-mart location was opened in Rogers, Arkansas about 40 years ago. Sam Walton (wal-ton, wal-mart) thought that it would be nice for the local townsfolk to be able to buy a LARGE selection of items at one store, HIS store. And it worked out so well for him that he started to expand...and expand...and expand... and you get the idea.
Wal-mart has gotten a lot of criticism for not paying workers benefits and the low wages that they pay. But they do create a lot of jobs...
