How can we called a democracy and can't even count our own votes? Remember the 2000 elections? Osama and the crew had to be laughing their butts off as we were counting loose chads, and ballots, and debating results. We were so distracted by that foolishness, while terrorist were planning our demise. It is a disgrace.

For national elections, we need a national system. States can be mirred in confusion if they want, but presidential elections should drama free results immediately! Why can't we do that?

Voting is a state issue, not federal. If it was federal, it would be a lot worse than it is now. You think the 2000 election was a mess. What if the recount had to happen nationwide?

Also, the President is not elected to be the voice of the people. That job belongs to the U.S. House of Representatives.

As you say at the end about us counting the ballots, you answer your question at the beginning about not being able to count our own votes. Or rather negate it. We do have a national voting system being the reason they had to count votes...
