I can understand how the syphon work, but when it come to REFILLING my 36g tank, how do i refill it when I have a saltwater tank?

I refill my saltwater and brackish tanks using a python with a powerhead.

The positioning of the python has to be completely reversed for this to work (the end which is in the tank during water removal is placed in a container containing pre-mixed saltwater and attached to a powerhead, a Maxijet 1200).

The portion which was connected to the faucet during removal is placed in the tank during the refill.

good question Jakie
You can still use it to fill your tank. Having a saltwater tank makes it more difficult. The problem lies if you put water into your tank then the specific gravity will shoot down ( which is a good way to rid parasites) but then the only way you can bring it up is putting the sea salt in. It can take time and then their is that possibility to make the specific gravity to high.. My recommendation is to use the python to top off the tank if the water is low. However if you have a small bucket you can keep next to the tank you can fill up the bucket and mix up the salt water then pump it into the aquarium. This makes less running back and forth with full buckets.
I love my python it cuts my time down with my dozen fw fish tanks.
hope this helps

The Python is only for emptying in your case.
