I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, I have had it for about 3 yrs now. An orange light keeps coming on saying "AWD Dissabled". At 1st it felt like my brakes were going bad when the light was not on, but after the light came on it drives perfect. At 1st it used to take a long time for the light to come on, after I was driving the vehicle, but now the light comes on as soon as I turn the vehicle on. I have taken it to fix to different mechanics, but they don't seem to know what the problem is. I even took it to the Buick dealer and they charged me $400. and they fixed it for a few days and then the light came back on. No matter what, the light saying "AWD Dissable" is aways on now.

Does anyone with this kind of car has the same problem? I know this car is not that known, especially in New York City. Maybe that is why they don't know how to fix it. I wanted to be unique getting a car that nobody has. LOL Please help.

Electrical problem: The ABS light, traction control light or the AWD disabled light may illuminate caused by excessive play in the front hub/bearing assemblies. (2002-03)

It stands for "all wheel drive disabled" so if it is not a problem with the AWD system, then it must be a traction control system that turns itself on and off when the wheels turn in opposition or when they spin. That is my best guess.

i think it just means ALL WHEEL DRIVE Disabled, and it shouldn't be a bad thing, it just means you aren't using All Wheel Drive, which apparently, you have the option of doing on your vehicle. weird that the mechanics haven't come up with a simple explanation. i wouldn't stress it too much as long as your car is driving fine. a lot of makes and models have problems with lights coming on for no particular reason; could be that sort of minor defect.

Well if you don't have a switch to disengage I would assume you have a electrical malfunction with the system possibly a actuator or sensor gone bad? Take it to the Chevy/Buick dealership there computer diagnostic tool can check this for you.

well how does it feel being unique :)

your AWD is dissabled and if the dealer didnt fix it correctly the first time, take it back and b*tch until they do, also make them do it for free :)

Take it back to the dealer! If they fixed it wrong the first time it's their responsibility to fix it right period after they claimed it was fixed. Should cost you no money.
