Breast milk is a living, biologically active food, mother's body constantly changes the composition of the milk based on exactly what the baby needs at that time. It changes with the age of the baby, with any illnesses or environmental factors that the mother's body detects, by the time of day, or even within a single feeding. Formula is static and is always the same without consideration of what baby needs that day or week.
Scientists have not yet been able to identify every ingredient in breast milk and many that they have identified they are not able to reproduced in formula.
There really is a huge gap between breastmilk and formula.
Thank goodness formula exists for babies who can't get breastmilk for whatever reason, and I'm glad that the manufacturers are working to make it the best they can, but it really is an inferior product.

Breast milk is so far superior to formula - there is truly no comparison. Breast milk not only is full of antibodies to protect your baby from infections and illness, it is full of living cells. It changes as your baby grows - it is the perfect food for your baby at any given moment. The advantages of breastfeeding are monumental. Remember that even the formula companies say "Breast is best". Check out the following link:

I am currently breastfeeding my 12 1/2 month old, he has never had a drop of formula. Breast milk is the best gift a mother can give to her child. Don't deprive your baby of the "best".

Mothers milk will always be the best thing for infants! I still say breast milk and formula has their pros and cons cause what if you smoke use drugs or on certain types of medications you cant feed your baby but formulas that include dha and ara are fairly close to providing the same nutritions found in breast milk so I say they are close but mothers milk is the best thing for babies !!

Always remember.....advertising is meant to manipulate you into thinking that you need to purchase a product.
Man will NEVER be able to duplicate breastmilk. Breastmilk is a LIVE substance that changes based on each individual baby's needs. Breastmilk is a dead substance that is not made specifically for your baby. Cow's milk is made for baby cows. Breasmilk is for baby humans.
Breastmilk contains immunities that are passed on to baby to help keep him healthy. Formula contains no immune factors.
Some artificial baby milks (formulas) now contain DHA and ARA in an attempt to make them "more like breastmilk." Do you know how they have added these ingredients to formula? The DHA is extracted from fermented microalgae and the ARA is extracted from soil fungus. ICK!
The iron in breastmilk is 50-75% absorbed by baby. The iron in formula is not as easily available to baby and only 5-10% is absorbed.
The taste of breastmilk changes with each feeding, based on mom's diet. This can help baby like a wide variety of foods when it comes time to start solids. The taste of formula always stays the same.
Breastfeeding can protect a child (and mother!) against certain forms of cancer. Formula can not do that. Breastfed babies have lower incidences of allergies, asthma and obesity.
The last link below is a PDF file, but well worth the read as a great comparison of the ingredients in breastmilk vs. formula.

My son got pumped breast milk for the 10 weeks he was in the hospital on a feeding tube (Preemie) but when he came home he went on formula. As long as you use the ones with ARA/DHA (Found in breastmilk to aid brain development) it is good for them. My son is now two and you cannot even tell he was almost 3 months early. He is very smart and talks more than other 2 year-olds that were born full-term.

Sure, and cigarettes wont kill. There are many laws regarding how formula companies can market their product, but it seems as if they are crossing the line if they are going to suggest it is close to mother's milk. It is impossible for them to mimic breastmilk.
Read the article below by Dr Sears. It compares breastmilk to formula. There really is no comparison, and dont let any formula company who just wants to make money fool you.

Breast milk is best. Although some people it's just not for them which is perfectly fine also. I could not breastfeed at all. No milk came in. They are making formula better and better.
It all depends on what brand you prefer.

Only breast milk will give the antibodies to help keep your newborn from getting sick. The child is a lot less likely to have food allergies. It can also reduce your risk from getting breast cancer. It is much better for bonding.
Also, for some people, cost is a major factor. Breastfeeding doesn't cost a dime and can help you lose your pregnancy weight faster!!
