A hunter sets up his camp. He walks five miles due south then stops for his lunch. He walks three miles due west at which point he shoots a bear. He then walks the five miles due north which brings him back to his camp. What colour was the bear?

The coordinates you gave indicate that it did not matter that he traveled west at all- he was always five miles from the camp which can only be attained at the poles. Since the only direction possible from the south pole is north and this riddle states he traveled south- he would have to be at the north pole. So the bear was white.

It must be white because there the place that you're talking about has to be a Pole and there are no bears at the South Pole and only Polar bears at the North Pole. Therefore it has to be a Polar bear which are nearly always white.

Based on the directions you gave, the bear has to be white because the camper is camping exactly at the North Pole.
