Well, if the question is any indication I would say that slowing down and reviewing would be a good first step...memory loss is a problem when you forget what keys are NOT when you forget Where they are...this is obviously a BIG problem or there would not be devices invented and available on TV and at Walgreens to record stuff like where you park your car...
You mention alcohol, perhaps in jest, BUT alcohol does kill brain cells and given enough time and alcohol there will be an effect on memory...
Finally, if you do suspect memory loss as a beginning issue please know that the drugs on TV only help slow memory loss they do NOT bring your memory back...so the sooner you take them the better...

Mine is names. I can be introduced to a person and within a sentence, I've already forgotten their name. My beloved (who's name I DO remember) says that I'm just lazy and if I listened properly in the first place I wouldn't have a problem. It's very embarrassing. Lists and numbers (codes especially) used to be a problem until I started doing Soduko regularly. They've saved that part of my brain, but sadly, names still elude me!

True story -
met a friend who had just bought a mega pack of ginko biloba as she had heard (from the media) that it improved the memory. Three months later I met her in town and asked if the remedy had worked. "No" - because she had put it in the cupboard as soon as she got home - and forgot it was there!

If your memory is that bad you'll probably forget that you posted the question! :o)
I find writing lists helps - even if I forget to take the list with me!! I can usually picture what I wrote on the list anyway!
